Costa Rica
Costa Rica is an oasis of tranquility and biodiversity, located in the heart of Central America. This small country is globally renowned for its stunning array of ecosystems, ranging from dense rainforests and cloud forests to sunny beaches and majestic volcanoes. Occupying just 0.03% of the world’s area, it is home to over 5% of its biodiversity, making it a favored destination for nature lovers and ecotourism enthusiasts.
Known for its political stability and peaceful history, Costa Rica is one of the few countries without an army, allocating those resources instead to strengthen its educational system and public healthcare. This commitment to peace and sustainability is reflected in its ongoing efforts to achieve carbon neutrality and lead in renewable energy production.
The warm Costa Rican culture is encapsulated in the term “pura vida,” a phrase that denotes a relaxed and optimistic lifestyle, serving as a daily reminder to enjoy the simple life and natural wonders. This spirit, combined with its natural diversity and commitment to the environment, makes Costa Rica an exceptional place not just to visit, but to experience a deep connection with nature and its people.
CONNECTIVITY
Costa Rica maintains robust connectivity with the rest of the world through its two main international airports: Juan Santamaría International Airport (SJO) in Alajuela, near the capital San José, and Daniel Oduber Quirós International Airport (LIR) in Liberia, in the Guanacaste region.
Juan Santamaría International Airport (SJO): This airport is the largest and busiest in Costa Rica, serving as a major hub in Central America. It offers numerous direct flights to and from major cities in North, Central, and South America, as well as connections to European destinations. Airlines such as United, Delta, American Airlines, and Copa Airlines operate frequent routes connecting San José with key cities like Miami, New York, Los Angeles, and Madrid, among others.
Daniel Oduber Quirós International Airport (LIR): Located in the heart of the tourist region of Guanacaste, this airport has seen a significant increase in traffic in recent years, becoming a crucial point for tourists who prefer to bypass the capital and directly access the Pacific beaches and resorts. LIR also offers direct flights to and from several major cities in the United States and Canada, including Houston, Atlanta, and Toronto.
Both airports are well-equipped with modern facilities and offer a variety of services to facilitate the arrival and departure of international tourists, reinforcing Costa Rica’s position as an accessible and attractive tourist destination on the global stage.
